 Release Notes:

The pressing, antagonistic and almost claustrophobia-inducing
sounds Meander introduced us to on his Carbon album on the well-
respected Low Res imprint in 2012 gets a follow-up in the form of
Gazing Long into the Abyss on Ruffneck’s Tainted Audio’s imprint.
Ophidian’s Meander project serves as an outlet that allows him to
take take us places his hardcore alias won’t, and this eagerness to
pursue the experimental shines through in the 15 tracks on Gazing
Long into the Abyss. Whereas 2012’s Carbon album was a foray into
the more dreamy and melody driven side of breakcore, Gazing Long
into the Abyss sets a much darker tone, taking drum & bass as the
middle ground and sees intense experimentation in all possible
  directions.

 Team Note:

SOB is here to give you a free quality sample of music and
to let you discover new artists and new style.
So if you like a release, buy it as we did.
We support artists, do the same!

We are always looking for talented rippers and anything
  which can help us.

  Currently we are looking for:
  - Experienced SAT / CABLE / DAB / FM / supplier.
  - Anything else that could help us.

If you think you can bring us something interesting, feel
  free to contact us.

it.is.amazing

Really dissapointed in this. From a technical standpoint, yeah it's great, but it has no personality, it's nothing memorable. 5 minutes after listening all through it I couldn't remember a single track. I can always go listen to his last album as Ophidian though I guess.

#4

its still MEANDER his dnb alias,so what do you expect? u like it or u like it not mate ;)

#5

Not really DnB alias, more breakcore, IDM, experimental, atleast it was like that.

#6

Hmm I like it but it's very "throwaway" if you get my meaning. Nothing anyone will remember and think about in the future imo.

#7

Before I do, what stile is this?
Anbiant? IDM?

#8

breakcore/DnB

#9

Pretty awesome stuff on it. I very very like it!

Something totally different from his normal productions.

If you like this side of Meander, you should also check that Carbon-album he did on Low Res.

#10

"Totally different"? Crossbreed and breakcore are out there for years but since it's Ophidian (same with TOA) then ofc it's an absolute masterpiece by default, no self-repeating, completely different from their previous releases (e.g. Meta4 Recordings with its sublabels).

#11

So because it's Ophidian it can't be a masterpiece? I think Ophidian's latest album is a mainstream shit but this one is beyond awesome...

#12

I'm not sure if he was being sarcastic or not myself tbh. Ophidian's latest album is mostly pretty good to be fair there's not much mainstream on it, the majority is more industrial tinged older Enzyme X style stuff. I can't really say this Meander album is "beyond awesome" though, several times I've listened to it now and It's just so empty to me.

#13

I'd say youre not really wrong but it's also the other way around. When people see tunes from mainstream producers like angerfist they immediately say it's shit just because a mainstream guy produced it.
If an industrial producer would make the same track out of fun they'd love it probably...

#14

I don't really care who makes a track as long as it's really good. I hate Endymion now for what they currently make, but if they suddenly brought out a release like their older more serious non cheesy stuff I'de be all over that stuff like flies on shit.
If you make good stuff I won't care who ya are.

#15

Good attitude :)
Unfortunately too many guys don't have that here...

#16

and ophidian became a bandwagoneering fuck..

the dnb part sounds like he studied Current value long and hard..

and well the crossbreed is on par with lowroller...

Yeah, he learned that from Ruffneck.

yeah I didn't like last Ophidian hardcore/crossbreed album at all but this darkstep I enjoy. Half the tracks not so big but Visions of Demons, Pretend, Stranger and Another Monster are real nice.. for me, I remember this stuff a lot more than most crossbreed/hardcore.. I'll play some of those 4 tunes in years to come... and my next mix for sure :) there is not enough darkstep anymore..
